Late night talk show host Conan O'Brien has gone through alot the past year and a half. Conan used to host "Late Night with Conan O'Brien" on NBC for 16 years. He then took Jay Leno's spot on "The Tonight Show". Leno went on to do his own show entitled "The Jay Leno Show".
Conan's numbers were falling later on with Jay's poor lead-in, and not only that, Conan was being pushed back to a 12:05am slot with Jay on at 11:35pm, instead of 10:00pm.
After Conan's seven month run on "The Tonight Show", NBC payed him out of his contract with $45 million dollars. Along with the handsome payout, O'Brien was not allowed to take any comedy bits that he created on NBC, as it was their property now. Conan was also prohibited from performing on the internet, television or radio until September 1, 2010, and can not make any negative remarks about NBC about this fiasco.
Conan O'Brien Tweeted on March 11, 2010 he would begin his comedy tour "The Legally Prohibited from Being Funny on Television Tour". He began this tour on April 12, 2010 in Eugene, Oregon; and ended in Atlanta, Georgia on June 14, 2010.
Just before the tour began, Conan signed a late night deal with TBS to air his own talk show entitled "Conan" that would star his loyal side kick Andy Richter; who is Conan's announcer in the beginning of the show, and makes comments on Conan's jokes, stars in Conan's skits, and often has his own skit on the show. Conan has his own band that plays music bits through out the show. The band is entitled "Jimmy Vivino and the Basic Cable Band" since Jimmy Vivino is the band leader, and a guitarist.
The show begins with Andy announcing Conan's name, and Conan walks out from behind curtains and walks out to center stage. As the band is playing an ever increasing music rip, Conan points, with both hands to Andy Richter standing at his lecturn (podium), then spins his arm and points to Jimmy Vivino and the Basic Cable Band. And at the last note, Conan jumps in the air, and when he lands; then band cuts off right then. Conan is known for his famous string dance, where he unbuttons his sport coat, throws the lower half behind him, then makes his hands look like hes holding string infront of his thighs, and pulls the imaginary string which pulls the corresponding leg towards the front and alternates legs with this process. At the end, he cuts one of the imaginary strings by making a scissors with his fingers, which makes that leg fall back.
Though Conan O'Brien has been through a lot, his TBS show has high ratings, and is a very funny show and a must see. It airs Monday-Thursday on TBS at 10pm - 11pm
I agree that Conan's rating's were being tanked by Jay Leno's show, but that was because of the limited time to present each segment. Conan is funny and I think he made that right move going to TBS because then both of my favorite late night hosts have decent time to present all of their show's segments.
